PFI Banned For Five Years, Modi Government Declared ‘Unlawful Association’

The NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a big decision on the Popular Front of India (PFI). On Tuesday (September 27, 2022), the Center declared the PFI, its members, affiliated organizations and fronts an illegal association with immediate effect for five years.

Apart from this action from the Centre, eight more organizations have also been whipped for the terror link. According to media reports, these include Rehab India Foundation (RIF), Campus Front of India (CFI), All India Imam Council (AIIC), National Confederation of Human Rights Organization (NCHRO), National Women’s Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation and others. Rehab Foundation (Kerala).

On Wednesday (September 28, 2022), BJP spokesperson Shahzad Poonawalla said, “PFI is a terrorist organization. This is the avatar of Simi. Many governments have said this thing. Today the question is with those who do the politics of appeasement whether they support this ban or not? At the same time, VHP leader Vinod Bansal said that a ban on an organization like PFI was necessary; I would say that it is late but it should come.

BJP’s national general secretary Arun Singh said in Bengaluru on Wednesday – The way riots took place in many districts in Rajasthan too. At the same time we were saying that PFI had a hand in this. Here (in Karnataka) even when Siddaramaiah was in power, more than 23 people were killed. To keep the country intact (PFI) ban was necessary.

This action was taken by the Center at a time when a day earlier on Tuesday (September 27, 2022), fresh action was taken against the PFI. More than 170 people associated with this organization were detained or arrested in seven states of the country.
